(Post-assessment and trivia fun)

AIM:
This lesson is the eighth and final lesson in a unit that teaches students about the Australian gold rush. In this lesson students will be assessed on the knowledge that they have acquired during the unit. Students will reflect on their excursion to Sovereign Hill and partake in a post-assessment activity. Finally the students will work in teams to partake in a trivia quiz that will test all of the knowledge that they have learnt.

OBJECTIVE(S):
On completion of this lesson all students will have shared a part of their writing task (from lesson seven) with the class during share time. Each student will have expanded on their knowledge of the Australian gold rush in the post-assessment task and will have a more comprehensive understanding of it if compared to in lesson one of the unit of work.

(2 mins)
·Students come inside the classroom and sit at their tables. They take out their work from the previous lesson (reflection on Sovereign hill) and sit in a circle on the floor.
· Teacher invites the students inside the classroom and asks them to get their work out from the previous humanities lesson and sit in a circle on the floor.
Work completed by students in lesson seven (reflection on Sovereign Hill experience).

(3 mins)

· The students get the chance to use props to allow them to pretend they are from the Australian gold rush era. Each student is able to choose a prop each.
Prop kit:
· The teacher places a ‘prop kit’ of Australian gold rush props in the middle of the circle. These props will include miners’ hats, small shovels and old clothes. The teacher invites the students to take one item each to wear and then sit back down in their seats.

(20 mins)

· Students read the favourite part of their writing out to the rest of the class. If any students have questions the student speaking will answer these. The next student will then read out their piece.
Share time:
· The teacher asks the students to choose their favourite part of their writing. The teacher explains that the class will take it in turns to read this aloud.

(15 mins)

· Students move back to their tables. They complete a mind-map brainstorm on what they know and what they have learnt about the ‘Australian gold rush’.
Mind map (post assessment):
· Teachers ask students to move back to their seats. He/she gives each student a sheet of A4 paper to complete their post-assessment on. This assessment is a mind-map completed by each student (the same as the one they completed in lesson one). By comparing the mind-maps from lesson one and this lesson the teacher will be able to evaluate how much the students have learned.
· On completion of this activity the teacher stores all mind-maps in a folder. She makes sure that each student has named their work.

· Students team up in the groups that they have been working with throughout the entire unit
· Students swap work after all of the trivia questions have been answered and correct each other’s work.
Trivia:
· The teacher asks the students to sit at their tables in the groups that they have been working with throughout this unit.
· A class trivia activity is run
· On completion of asking all the trivia questions (see below) the teacher asks the students to swap answer sheets between groups and then the class goes through the answers as a whole
· After the scores are determined the trivia winners are announced

Conclusion:
· Teacher thanks and congratulates students for working so hard and well during this unit of work.
· The teacher rewards the team that won trivia by letting them leave first at the end of the day.
